Frequently asked questions
Do I need prior scuba experience to dive with you?
Answer: No! We welcome beginners and experienced divers alike. Our PADI-certified instructors provide all the guidance you need, including beginner courses and Discover Scuba Diving experiences.
What is the minimum age requirement for scuba diving?
Children as young as 16 years old can participate in our PADI courses. For Discover Scuba Diving experiences, the minimum age is 15 years. We offer specialized programs designed specifically for young divers to ensure their safety and enjoyment.
What equipment do I need to bring?
We provide all necessary scuba equipment including tanks, weights, BCDs, regulators, and wetsuits. You only need to bring your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure. If you have your own gear, you’re welcome to use it.
How long does it take to complete the PADI Open Water Diver course?
The PADI Open Water Diver course typically takes 3-4 days to complete. This includes knowledge development sessions, confined water training in a pool, and open water dives. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your vacation plans.
What dive sites do you visit and how deep do we go?
We dive at various sites along Mombasa’s North and South coasts, featuring vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life. Depths vary from 5-30 meters depending on your certification level and experience. Our experienced guides select the best sites based on conditions and your skill level.
Is diving safe? What safety measures do you have in place?
Safety is our top priority. All our instructors are PADI-certified professionals with 10-20 years of experience. We use fully insured and certified dive boats, maintain equipment to the highest standards, conduct thorough safety briefings, and follow strict diving protocols. We also carry emergency oxygen and first aid equipment on all trips.
Do you provide transportation to the dive centre?
Yes! We offer complimentary transfers to the nearest dive center from most major hotels along the North and South coasts of Mombasa. Simply let us know your hotel location when booking, and we’ll arrange pickup and drop-off.
What if the weather is bad on my scheduled dive day?
Your safety comes first. If weather conditions are unsuitable for diving, we’ll reschedule your trip to another day during your stay or provide a full refund. Our experienced captains and crew monitor conditions closely and make informed decisions about dive operations.
Can I get certified if I'm not a strong swimmer?
Basic swimming ability is required for PADI certification. You need to be comfortable in water and able to swim 200 meters (or 300 meters with mask, fins, and snorkel) and tread water for 10 minutes. If you’re unsure about your swimming skills, contact us and we can discuss your options.
What is the difference between Discover Scuba Diving and the PADI Open Water course?
Discover Scuba Diving is a one-day introductory experience that lets you try diving without full certification. It’s perfect if you want to see if diving is for you. The PADI Open Water Diver course is a full certification program (3-4 days) that qualifies you to dive anywhere in the world up to 18 meters depth. The experience from Discover Scuba Diving can be credited toward your Open Water certification if you decide to continue.
