Best Dive Sites in Diani & Mombasa: A Complete Guide
Kenya’s south and north coasts offer a surprising range of diving for such a compact stretch of coastline – fringing coral reefs, dramatic pinnacles, wall dives, and even a purpose-sunk wreck. Here’s an overview of the kind of diving you’ll find across our two dive bases.

Reef diving
Most diving here happens on fringing coral reef systems starting in the 7-12 meter range and sloping down to 20-25 metres in places, making them accessible to newly certified divers while still offering enough depth and structure to interest experienced ones. Expect coral gardens, sandy patches rich in macro life, and reef walls where two currents sometimes meet, concentrating fish activity.
Look out for green and hawksbill turtles (seen on the large majority of dives), moray eels, clownfish, nudibranchs, surgeonfish, triggerfish, Moorish idols, and – depending on the site and season – guitar rays, stingrays, and occasionally manta rays.
Wreck diving
The south coast is home to a deliberately sunk wreck, resting in the high teens to high 20-metre range, that’s become a thriving artificial reef over the years – a highlight for certified divers looking for something beyond reef diving. Wreck dives here are typically suited to Advanced Open Water divers and above.
Pinnacle and wall dives
Several sites feature underwater pinnacles and reef walls dropping to 25–30 metres, popular with more experienced divers for the combination of depth, structure and the larger pelagic fish these formations tend to attract – schools of snapper and barracuda, and occasionally bigger visitors passing through.
Macro diving
For photographers and anyone who enjoys spotting small critters, several patch reefs and sheltered coral areas are known for ghost pipefish, seahorses, frogfish, and nudibranchs – worth requesting specifically if macro life is your thing.
